About Kuldhara
A Paliwal Brahmin village that stood from the thirteenth century and was abandoned early in the nineteenth, along with, the story goes, eighty-three other villages in one night. The legend blames Diwan Salim Singh, who demanded the village headman's daughter, and says the departing villagers left a curse that nobody would settle here again. Nobody has. The houses stand in straight streets, a few restored, 18 km west of Jaisalmer.
