About Bishnoi Villages and Khejarli

In 1730, 363 Bishnois led by Amrita Devi died at Khejarli rather than let the Jodhpur king cut their khejri trees, and the community has protected trees and animals ever since. The result is that blackbuck and chinkara graze near the houses at Guda Bishnoiyan and cranes winter on its lake. Jeep tours from Jodhpur take in the villages, the Salawas durrie weavers and the memorial.
