About Thembang

A walled Monpa village on a ridge north of Dirang, entered through two old stone gates, with a fortified core that the community says goes back a thousand years. It is on the UNESCO tentative list for its dzong and its living traditions, and the village runs its own homestays and treks into the Thembang forest. About 20 km from Dirang on a rough road. Few visitors.
