About Dirang

A pleasant valley town on the Dirang Chu at 1600 m, warmer than Bomdila and a better base for the Kameng villages. Dirang Dzong is the old fortified Monpa settlement on a bluff above the river, its stone houses and gateway roughly 500 years old and still lived in. The hot spring is a couple of km downstream, and the slopes around are kiwi and apple orchards. Many people now sleep here instead of Bomdila on the way to Tawang.
