About Pushkar Lake & Brahma Temple
Legend says Brahma dropped a lotus here and the lake formed; 52 ghats now step down to it, each tied to a ruler or a family. The Brahma temple with its red spire is one of very few to Brahma anywhere, its present form from the 14th century. The town is vegetarian and dry by law, and Kartik Purnima in November brings the fair and the biggest bathing day. Men with flowers and threads will bless you at the ghats for a fee; agree it first or decline.
