About Pushkar Camel Fair
For a week around Kartik Purnima the sand west of the lake fills with camels, Marwari horses and cattle for sale, and the town with pilgrims, photographers and tour groups. The livestock trading is smaller each year and the cultural programme bigger, but the early mornings on the mela ground, before the crowds, are still something. Dates follow the lunar calendar and fall somewhere between late October and late November.
What to see and do
- Camel and horse camps on the sand at dawn
- Kartik Purnima bathing at the lake
- Fairground rides and stalls
- Cultural programme at the stadium
- Hot-air balloons in recent years
Part of Aravalli.
