About Osian
A trading town on the old caravan route that flowered under the Pratiharas in the 8th and 9th centuries, and about sixteen temples from that time still stand. The Sachiya Mata temple on the hill is the living one, reached by a long stair; the Mahavira Jain temple is where the Oswal Jains trace their origin. The sand starts at the edge of town, so it has become a camel camp base too.
