About Mehrangarh Fort
Rao Jodha began the fort in 1459 on a rock 120 metres above the town he had just founded, and every Rathore ruler after him added to it. The museum inside is one of the best run in Rajasthan, with palanquins, howdahs, miniature paintings and the mirrored Phool Mahal. From the ramparts the blue houses of the old city spread out below, which is the view everyone comes for.
What to see and do
- Phool Mahal, Moti Mahal and Sheesh Mahal
- The museum and its palanquin and howdah galleries
- Cannonball marks on the Jai Pol gate
- Chamunda Mata temple on the southern bastion
- The Flying Fox zipline over the fort lakes
- Blue city views from the ramparts
