About Lake Pichola and Jag Mandir
Dug in 1362 by a grain merchant and enlarged by Udai Singh II, this is the lake that makes Udaipur what it is. The boats leave from Rameshwar Ghat below the City Palace, circle Jag Niwas, which is now the Taj Lake Palace and only open to guests, and stop at Jag Mandir, the island palace where Shah Jahan sheltered as a prince in 1623. The boats run all year, though the lake has dried out in bad monsoon years.
