About Kumhrar

The excavated remains of Pataliputra, capital of the Mauryan empire under Chandragupta and Ashoka. Excavations from 1912 found an 80-pillared hall of polished sandstone, though the pillars are now mostly under water and turf, so you see a park with a few stumps and the Arogya Vihar monastery-hospital remains. Come for what it was rather than what shows. The site museum helps.
