About Khandepar Caves
A small group of rock-cut caves in laterite at Khandepar near Ponda, believed to be more than a thousand years old. They are cut into a hillside above a stream and some hold simple Shiva linga shrines. The site is protected but little visited, so signage is basic and paths can be overgrown in the rains. Ask in the village for directions and take care on the wet stone.
What to see and do
- Laterite rock-cut cells
- Simple Shiva lingam shrine
- Stream below the hill
- Few visitors
- Easy to combine with the Ponda temples
