About Chapora Fort

A red laterite fort on a hill above the Chapora river, built by the Adil Shahi rulers and rebuilt by the Portuguese in 1617. Little remains but the walls and bastions, yet the view over Vagator, the river and the coast is why people climb it, and many know it from a popular Hindi film. Go in the early morning or an hour before sunset, wear proper shoes for the loose stones, and carry water as there is no shade.
