About Basilica of Bom Jesus

The church that holds the body of St Francis Xavier, completed in 1605, and one of the best known buildings of Old Goa. Its plain laterite front has no plaster, and inside is a gilded altar and the silver casket in which the saint's remains lie. The relics are brought out for public viewing about every ten years, the last time from late 2024 to January 2025. The feast is on 3 December. Dress modestly and avoid visiting during Mass if you want to look around.
