About Shri Mangueshi Temple

The best known temple in Goa, dedicated to Mangesh, a form of Shiva, at Priol near Ponda. Its present form dates to the 1700s and mixes Hindu, Islamic and Portuguese touches, with a seven-storey lamp tower, a white nave and a calm temple tank. The deity was moved here from Cortalim during the Portuguese period, to a safer place. Dress modestly, remove footwear and expect longer queues on Mondays and festival days.
