About Kalsubai
At 1,646 m Kalsubai is the highest point in Maharashtra, which is why locals call it the Everest of the state. The trail from Bari village climbs steadily through fields and scrub before hitting four sets of iron ladders bolted onto the rock face, the ladders look intimidating in photos but are sturdy and well-maintained. A small temple to Kalsu, the tribal goddess the peak is named after, sits on the summit.
What to see and do
- Four iron ladder sections on the final push
- Kalsubai Devi temple at the summit
- 360° views of Alang-Madan-Kulang, Aundha and Bitangad
- Bhandardara lake and Wilson Dam from the top
- Chai and poha stalls run by locals along the trail
Part of Sahyadri (Western Ghats).
