About Fatehpur Sikri
Akbar built a whole capital here between 1571 and 1585 around the hospice of the Sufi Salim Chishti, who had foretold the birth of his son, and left it within fifteen years, most likely for want of water. The sandstone palaces, Panch Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas and Anup Talao, are the ticketed part. The Jama Masjid with the marble dargah and the 54 m Buland Darwaza is free and full of persistent guides. About an hour from Agra.
