About Bateshwar
A line of 101 whitewashed Shiva temples along a bend of the Yamuna, mostly 17th and 18th century Bhadawar Raja work, hung with thousands of bells offered by pilgrims. The Kartik cattle fair, around Diwali and after, is one of the oldest in north India. It is 70 km from Agra towards Bah, where the Chambal ravines begin, and was the ancestral village of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Shauripur, the Jain site for Neminath, is 5 km on.
