About Desert National Park

Over 3000 square kilometres of dunes, rocky flats and salt pans running to the border, and the last real stronghold of the Great Indian Bustard, a metre-tall bird of which fewer than 150 remain. Sudasari, past Sam, is the enclosure where you have the best chance. Winter brings steppe and tawny eagles and vultures; chinkara, desert fox and spiny-tailed lizards are resident. Permits come from the park office in Jaisalmer; bring your own jeep.
