About Akal Wood Fossil Park
Tree trunks that fell 180 million years ago, when this was a coastline in the Jurassic, lie in the open on a stony slope 17 km from Jaisalmer on the Barmer road, the longest about 13 metres. The forest department has put shelters over the biggest, and there is a small display room. It is an hour, not a day, and geologically the most interesting hour in the district.
