About Chittorgarh Fort
The old capital of Mewar, on a 180 m plateau 7 km long, and the largest fort in India by area. It fell three times, to Alauddin Khilji in 1303, Bahadur Shah of Gujarat in 1535 and Akbar in 1568, and each time the women went to jauhar; the stories of Padmini and Meera bai belong here too. Rana Kumbha's nine-storey Vijay Stambh of 1448 can be climbed. You need a vehicle for the circuit; the autos at the gate have fixed prices.
