About Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary and Fort
A 153 sq km sanctuary of dry Vindhyan forest 25 km east of Chittorgarh, declared in 1988 around the Bassi and Orai reservoirs. Panther, wild boar, four-horned antelope and mongoose are here and the two dams pull in waterbirds in winter. Bassi Fort in the village is a 16th-century Mewar noble's seat run as a heritage hotel, and is the usual base for jeep trips into the forest.
