About BHU & Bharat Kala Bhavan
Madan Mohan Malaviya founded the university in 1916 on 1,300 acres at the southern edge of the city, and the campus is the greenest, quietest place in Varanasi. Bharat Kala Bhavan, begun by Rai Krishnadasa in 1920, holds one of the best collections of Indian miniature painting anywhere, plus textiles, sculpture and a Roerich gallery; closed on Sundays. The New Vishwanath temple in the campus, finished in 1966, is open to all regardless of faith.
