About Ramnagar Fort
The seat of the Kashi Naresh on the east bank, built in Chunar sandstone by Raja Balwant Singh around 1750 and still home to the family. The Saraswati Bhawan museum is dusty and wonderful: vintage cars, palanquins, ivory, old arms, an astronomical clock and much royal clutter. The Ramnagar Ramlila, staged across the town for a month up to Dussehra with the Maharaja attending on elephant, has run for over two centuries. Reach it by bridge or boat.
