About Kashi Vishwanath Temple
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas and the shrine the whole city is built around. The present temple dates to 1780, raised by Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore after earlier ones were pulled down, and the gold on the spires was given by Ranjit Singh in 1835. The corridor opened in 2021 cleared a wide paved approach from Lalita Ghat, so you can walk in straight from the river. Queues run long on Mondays, through Shravan and around Mahashivratri.
