About Thiksey Monastery
A twelve storey monastery on a hill about 19 km from Leh that looks like a small Potala Palace. It holds a 15 metre high Maitreya Buddha statue in the main hall, and the terrace has a good view over the Indus valley. Morning prayers at around 6 am, with horns and drums, are an unforgettable experience. Dress modestly and take off your shoes.
