About Shanti Stupa

A white domed stupa on a ridge above Leh, built by Japanese and Ladakhi Buddhists and opened in 1991. A road and a flight of about 500 steps lead up to it, and at sunrise or sunset the view over Leh and the surrounding mountains is beautiful. It is lit up at night. The altitude makes the stairs tiring, so go slowly.
