About Spituk Monastery
A hilltop monastery near the airport, 8 km from Leh, founded in the 11th century, with a view of the Indus valley and the Zanskar range. It holds old murals, a fierce guardian deity chamber that is only opened at festival time, and a Gustor festival in January. It is a pleasant stop on the Leh to Nimmu road.
