About Tomb of Sher Shah Suri

Sher Shah Suri, who ruled north India from 1540 to 1545 and built the Grand Trunk Road, lies here in a red sandstone tomb 37 metres high in the middle of a square artificial lake. Aliwal Khan finished it in 1545, months after Sher Shah died in an explosion at Kalinjar. It is the finest Indo-Afghan building anywhere, octagonal, ringed with chhatris and doubled by the water. Go at sunrise or late afternoon.
