About Sandhan Valley
A 200-ft-deep, nearly 2-km-long rock canyon so narrow that sunlight reaches the floor for only a couple of hours a day, hence 'Valley of Shadows'. The route involves boulder hopping, wading through chest-deep pools and two rappels. It is a dry-season trek only; in monsoon the canyon becomes a funnel for flash floods.
What to see and do
- The narrow shadow corridor where walls close to arm's width
- Two rappels of roughly 65 ft and 30 ft
- Wading through cold, dark rock pools
- Views of Alang, Madan and Kulang from Samrad
- Camping under the stars at the canyon exit
Part of Sahyadri (Western Ghats).
