About Rajsamand Lake and Nauchowki

Maharana Raj Singh I dammed the Gomti between 1662 and 1676 as famine relief, and the marble embankment at the south end, the Nauchowki, is nine carved pavilions on three terraces reached by flights of marble steps. Set into it on 25 stone slabs is the Raj Prashasti, a Sanskrit history of Mewar in 1017 verses and the longest stone inscription in India. The town of Rajsamand grew up around the lake and took its name.
