About Satti Chaura Ghat
On 27 June 1857 the British garrison under Wheeler, promised safe passage, came down to this ghat to board boats for Allahabad and were fired on from the banks; almost none survived. The small Shiva temple where the shooting started is still there, and the ghat is otherwise an ordinary Ganga bathing place with a memorial stone. The bank is steep.
