About The Residency
The British Residency was besieged for 87 days in 1857, from late June to November, and the ruins were deliberately left as they stood when the fighting ended. Cannon-scarred walls, the cemetery where Sir Henry Lawrence lies, and lawns that are now one of the quietest places in the city. The ASI museum in the basement has a model of the siege.
