About Kundalpur, Basokund

Basokund, a few kilometres from the Vaishali monuments, is the village most Jain scholars and the Bihar government take as Kundagrama, where Mahavira was born to a Licchavi chief around the sixth century BCE. A Jain temple and a memorial mark the site, and Mahavir Jayanti brings pilgrims and a fair. Nalanda district has its own Kundalpur claim; this is the Vaishali side of that argument.
