About Jaipur Walled City
Vidyadhar Bhattacharya laid out the city for Jai Singh II in 1727 on a grid of nine squares divided by wide bazaar streets, one of the first planned cities in India. The pink came later, in 1876, when the town was painted for the Prince of Wales and never repainted. Walk it early, from Badi Chaupar down Johari Bazaar for jewellers and Bapu Bazaar for textiles and juttis.
