About Hawa Mahal
Sawai Pratap Singh built this five-storey screen of 953 windows in 1799 so the women of the court could watch the street without being seen. It is really a facade one room deep, and the famous view is from the road, or from the rooftop cafes opposite. Go inside for the narrow ramps and the view back over Badi Chaupar.
What to see and do
- The honeycomb facade of 953 jharokhas
- Rooftop cafes across the road for the classic view
- Ramps instead of stairs on the upper floors
- Views over Badi Chaupar and the walled city
