About Sambhar Salt Lake
The largest inland saline lake in India, a Ramsar site 80 km west of Jaipur that has been worked for salt for over a thousand years. In winter it draws flamingos, pelicans and thousands of waders when there is water. The narrow-gauge salt railway and the colonial Circuit House belong to Sambhar Salts. Cars get stuck on the flats every season; stay on the tracks. The Shakambhari Devi temple stands on the far shore.
