About Imambara Gorakhpur

Founded in 1717 by the Sufi Hazrat Roshan Ali Shah, whose successors are known as Miyan Sahab, with grants later from the nawabs of Awadh. It is known for its tazias of gold and silver brought out at Muharram, and for a fire that is said to have burned without a break since the founding. A working shrine in the old city, open to everyone.
