About Ganesh Bagh, Karwi

Built by Vinayak Rao Peshwa around 1830 as a summer retreat at Karwi, 11 km from Chitrakoot town: a carved sandstone temple, a seven storey stepwell and the ruins of a palace in a walled garden. The temple carving is dense enough that the locals call it mini Khajuraho, though it is a tenth of the size. Few visitors, and worth the detour from the pilgrimage crowds.
