About Bala Qila
The hill fort above Alwar, roughly 300 metres over the town, with five kilometres of wall and dozens of towers. Hasan Khan Mewati built it in the 15th century, Babur slept a night in it, and the Alwar Rajputs took it in 1775. Because the police have long used part of it for a wireless station, visitors needed a written permission from the superintendent; a motorable road goes up.
What to see and do
- Five kilometres of rampart along the ridge
- Jai Pol and the other five gates
- Views over the whole Alwar valley
