About Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary
India's only sanctuary for the Gangetic river dolphin, a 60 km stretch of the Ganga between Sultanganj and Kahalgaon notified in 1991. Hire a country boat at dawn from Kahalgaon or from Barari Ghat in Bhagalpur and watch the water; the dolphins surface for a second at a time and are heard as often as seen. Winter mornings give the calmest river and the most sightings. Agree the price before you push off.
