About Ajgaibinath Temple, Sultanganj

A Shiva temple on a granite rock rising out of the Ganga at Sultanganj, where the river turns to flow north for a stretch, which is why its water is considered especially holy. In Shravan several lakh kanwariyas fill their pots here and walk 105 km to Baidyanath at Deoghar; the month-long Shravani Mela is one of the largest pilgrim movements in India. Outside Shravan it is a quiet rock temple reached by a short boat ride.
