About Sun Temple, Turkpatti
A village temple built around an image of Surya in black neelmani stone, dated to the Gupta period and dug up locally. It is about 17 km from Kushinagar and is a Hindu counterweight to the Buddhist sites: Chhath and the Sundays of Kartik bring the crowds. The image is worth the detour; the building is not.
