About Matha Kuar Shrine

A small modern shrine over a 3 m seated Buddha in bhumisparsha mudra, carved from blue-black stone around the 10th or 11th century and found in the ruins of the surrounding monastery. It is a short walk from the Mahaparinirvana Temple and most people pass it without stopping, which is a mistake; the image is one of the finest in Kushinagar.
