About Sheetla Chaukiya Dham
The best-known temple in Jaunpur district, to Sheetla Mata, the goddess who protects against smallpox and fevers, beside a large tank on the northern edge of town. Local tradition holds it older than the city and the Sharqis. Mondays and Fridays and the whole of Navratri are busy, and Sheetla Ashtami after Holi is the main fair.
