About Shahi Qila (Jaunpur Fort)

Firoz Shah Tughlaq founded the fort on the Gomti bank around 1360 when he laid out Jaunpur, and the Sharqis, Lodis and Mughals each added to it. Little survives inside except a small mosque of 1376 by Ibrahim Naib Barbak, a Turkish-style hammam and the inner gateway with its blue and yellow tile fragments; the British blew up much of the rest after 1857. The walls are the reason to come: walk them for the view over the river and the Shahi Bridge.
