About Atala Masjid

Finished in 1408 under Ibrahim Shah Sharqi and the model for everything the Sharqis built afterwards. The trademark is the massive central pylon, a battered screen over 23 metres high that hides the dome behind it, unlike anything in Delhi. The stonework is partly reused from earlier buildings. It is a working mosque in a dense neighbourhood; visit outside prayer times, dress modestly and ask before going in.
