About Sardhana Basilica
Begum Samru, the dancing girl who became ruler of Sardhana and a Catholic, built this church in 1822 to a design by an Italian officer in her army; it became a minor basilica in 1961. Her marble monument by Adamo Tadolini stands inside. The November feast brings tens of thousands of pilgrims from across north India.
