About Pasighat and the Siang
Founded in 1911 as a British outpost and the oldest town in the state, set where the Siang comes out of the hills, widens and turns into the Brahmaputra further down. It is the easiest of the big rivers to reach, an hour or two from the Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra, and the rafting from Rottung or Pangin down to town runs November to March. The Siang River Festival in December puts boats, food and Adi dances on the river bank.
