About Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary

A sanctuary of grassland islands in the Siang, 13 km downstream of Pasighat, named after the Adi leader Daying Ering. You go by boat from the bank and walk the elephant grass and sand, looking for hog deer, wild buffalo and, in winter, the ducks and waders that come down to the river. The whole thing goes under water in the monsoon. Wildlife is thin and shy compared to Kaziranga; the river landscape is the point.
