About Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary
The whole plateau outside the town is sanctuary, declared in 1960, with sloth bear, leopard and a bird list that includes the green munia, which is hard to find anywhere else. Trevor's Tank, a British-era crocodile pond 5 km from town, is the usual entry point, with a short trail and hides. The forest department controls access and the town's trails, so ask at the gate; the bears are real and walk the roads at dusk.
